Da Lat is at 1300m and consequently much liked by the locals as a holiday destination.
They all wrap up warm as by their standards it is cold!
We had a wonderful time in De Lat primarily because of the people we met while we were there.
We started our day walking around the lake with an unexpectedly joyous walk around their flower garden, hopefully the different mixtures of beauty and twee will also make you smile..... see the pictures. As the day got very hot we stopped under a tree near the lake to sit in the shade a bit. We were approached by an 18y old Vietnamese lad and invited to join their picnic. We joined them for a great lunch and talked our way through until the thunderstorm that hit us about an hour later. Luckily our hosts were prepared for this and a tarp was quickly hauled up a tree and a singsong commenced. Liza lead us all in a chorus of 'If you're happy and you know it.' is a sight I never really thought was possible! Again, see the pics.
Our evening saw us on the streets to sample the cooking of the various street vendors that had set up shop where we ran into a charming couple on holiday from Saigon, he was a technician working with the CT scanner in one of Saigon's hospital and we had a really instructive chat, he told us amongst many interesting things, the muffins videoed in Na Trang were called "bánh canh".
We left Da Lat on the coach to Saigon where, being as we had been there before only spent a couple of days at. One of these was Liza's birthday so we celebrated in style at the local water park and a meal out before heading to Cambodia by boat up the Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh.
Pictures of De Lat
In my defense Andy did the chicken dance. It was that kind of day.
